Another example of Phuket's rapidly vanishing budget accommodations, this new resort has replaced Bungalow Ao Chalong. Calling it a resort is a bit of an overstatement as there's no swimming pool or restaurant and the rooms, while nicely done up, are in a two storey townhouse. The rooms all have the same amenities -- king beds with silky sheets, roomy bathtubs, and air-con. The pricier rooms are decorated Lanna-style, which refers to a type of traditional Northern Thai architecture. These rooms are quite beautiful with a platform teak bed, fresh flowers, and lots of silk. The upstairs rooms do have a sea view, but you won't be too tempted by the scruffy beach here. The rates are high, especially since breakfast is not included, and this resort feels like it was designed to appeal to the Thai tourists who flock to the massive Danang seafood restaurant next door.

It's a bumpy trek to Aochalong Villa, so it's a genuine surprise to find a first-class boutique resort at the end of the dirt road.
