Bangtao Village Resort
Like a tucked away temple

What we say:
Just when you think you've left beach territory, you see the sign for this place. In a bit of an odd location past the cluster of beachfront commerce and down a soi, the sloping roofs of Bangtao Village Resort's bungalows look like Buddhist temples tucked away behind a fence. The design is classic Thai, and while the rooms are comfortable, the furniture, TV and fridge could be updated. All have air-con, satellite TV, minibar, coffee-making supplies, and free WiFi. The bathrooms all have tubs, and we liked the frosted glass window to let in natural light. There's a small pool and most of the rooms have not-so-private terraces that look onto it. Rates include breakfast for two at their restaurant. With the rent price bump, we prefer the Bang Tao Beach Chalet if not travelling with children.
