Description
Some TravelFish members rave about Bangtao Lagoon Bungalow, and we understand why. A beach-front resort with a range of bungalows priced to suit almost any budget -- what's not to love? The resort is very well laid out -- there's lots of space and, at the centre, is a stunning multi-tiered pool and the Lagoon Cafe. On top of that, the beach here is divine with soft white-sand and plenty of shade-giving trees. As beautiful as the grounds are, the resort is still far from fancy. The bungalows are standard concrete affairs that have eschewed any frills for stark cleanliness. All of the bungalows have the same furniture, but prices rise quickly based on size and location. The cheapest digs are the fan bungalows stuck out back facing away from the beach. All other bungalows have air-con, TV, hot water, and a private terrace. Staff can be rather abrupt and we've heard some complaints about the restaurant, but this is one of the few places that take advance bookings for their budget rooms. We found it fishy that their printed rates do not include a mandatory 130B/person for breakfast.

Rooms were OK for the price but that wasn't the problem.
At 2AM I had someone hammer on my door and run away. Was a bit scary because we had only arrived a few hours before.
Next morning went to the 'restaurant' where they had run out of all juices, and toast. A minor inconvenience, so I decided to have a banana. I peeled it and found MAGGOTS CRAWLING ALL OVER IT.
Restaurant was dirty, staff weren't particularly friendly, we hated it.

Not a fancy place by any stretch of the imagination, but it's one of the few affordable spots in Phuket that you can book online (just email them directly) and both the price and location (serene Bangtao Beach, near a few little shops and restaurants but removed from the uber-resorts up the way) are fantastic. Definitely recommend.
