Very good value in a bit of a sleazy area

What we say:

This is the heart of northern Karon's sleazy area and we wouldn't actively choose to stay here, but if, for some reason you are, the Welcome Inn is a decent place to rest your head. At the top end of Soi Islandia you'll find this guesthouse whose lobby and guestrooms are spotlessly clean but somewhat bare (perhaps this makes all the cleaning easier). The very big, very white rooms have air-con, satellite TV, a mini-bar, and free WiFi. Every room has an black and white tiled en-suite with a partition for the shower and a hot water heater. This time around, we were a bit put off by the tattered sheets and the drunk guy moaning in pain on the stairs, whom the staff didn't seem to care much about, but if you're headed up this way, look no further. If you are really keen, you can make a reservation on the website. Rates are excellent value year-round.

Spartan but solid

I was one of the many tourists trapped in Thailand when the airports were closed. Stayed at the Welcome Inn for 4 days -- the hotel is kept very clean, and was great value for the price. No internet, though I found I could piggy-back off the Skylight2 WiFi. (Arfur O'tools also has open WiFi). This is a good choice on Soi Islandia -- at the end of the street so the noise from the bars is not noticeable, but still only a 3-minute walk to the beach. My recollection is that there is a safety deposit box in the lobby (rather than an in-room hotel safe). A good choice.
