The Marina Phuket Resort is a top-notch place that's set way back from the road on the southern headlands of Karon Beach. The sprawling grounds were once a coconut plantation but now host an extensive botanical garden and two swimming pools, and provide private access to Karon Beach. The chalet-style bungalows blend luxury Thai styling with technology; the rooms have high ceilings with solid teak beams, Jim Thompson silks and deep terrazzo tubs, but also LCD TVs and mini-computers to provide access to the internet and digital music. The seaview bungalows are the swankiest and have massive sliding doors and windows that open up to a view worth the high price tag. Though in a nicely wooded area, the jungle bungalows just can't compare to the seaview bungalows — so if you have it, spend the extra cash. There are two restaurants — Sala Thai, which features a Thai-Continental menu and nightly performance from traditional Thai dancers and musicians, and On the Rock Seafood, which has excellent views but high prices.

Warmly recommended

I stayed at Marina Phuket three times during last five years and I can warmly recommend this hotel. The staff was always very helpful and you can see only smiles around you. Rooms in superior and deluxe cottages are OK.- clean and spacious. There is also very good diving centre - Marina Divers - next to the hotel. I got OWD and AOWD courses there. About disadvantages - both restaurants are heavily overpriced.
