Spread out over 55 rai of lush palm-lined grounds this full-service resort remains a good choice. However, its glory, like the 5 stars on its sign, is starting to fade. With 209 rooms this place is big, almost too big, and some rooms are a ten minute walk from the reception desk and an even longer hike to the beach. The style is a Thai-colonial fusion, but the aging rooms, grounds, and restaurants are starting to look a little bland. Still, the rooms are spacious with all the expected amenities and the deluxes have balconies with sea view. The facilities are a big draw and there's five pools, two tennis courts, a fitness centre, separate male and female saunas, three restaurants, and on-site Thai cooking classes. As the Thavorn Palm Beach Resort ages the rates become more and more affordable, and some great deals can be had in the low season.
