Located in a complex just across from the northern end of the massive Club Med sits this friendly operation. Southern Fried Rice has several room types ranging from small rooms with shared bathrooms to giant rooms with private modern baths. All eight rooms come with at least one very sleepable bed, TV, safety deposit box and mini-fridge. The larger family rooms are well suited for families on a budget or people travelling in a small group — breakfast is included. The rates include WiFi in the rooms and airport pick up is free if you book ahead five nights or more. Southern Fried Rice also has a very popular restaurant where the Phuket Chess Club likes to hold their events — who knew?

The Stay is nice at Southern Fried Rice

Phuket being our 2nd location, Southern Fried Rice our 3rd accommodation, I can not claim expertise. That being said, our stay there will be one to compare with for the rest of our year long southeast asia adventure. The rooms were bight and clean, with crisp linen and working AC/safe/mini fridge. Being in Phuket, we never turned on the TV, but I bet it worked too. The private bathroom was functional with a nifty German heating contraption ensuring steady temperatures, yet with the lack of shower curtain it became more of a wetroom. A few tiny ants and not much of a view, however for the price the value was outstanding. The Norwegian owner was as welcoming, warm and witty as they come. You may find yourself sitting with him in the deceivingly plain looking yet fantastic restaurant, rather then roaming the very near by streets of Kata/Karon. The staff were friendly, kind and easy to communicate with. The food was outstanding in variety, taste and price. Our time here compelled us to stay longer in the overdone, beach hub, yet the call of other locations over came. We would recommend the quiet Southern Fried Rice to anyone/couple/small family looking for a temporary home with temporary friends and unforgettable food.
