Before the tsunami, we considered this place the best budget hideaway on the whole of Phuket Island, and despite the damage, we're glad to report that's still the case. Things have changed a lot, though. Eight of their twelve bungalows were completely wiped out, as well as the kitchen and restaurant. While the latter have been rebuilt with the help of volunteers, they're still operating out of the four remaining bungalows. They plan to build some more, at some point, further away from the water. The campground was unaffected. The staff here are really friendly. Call ahead to reserve a bungalow and get a ride in from the main road or the airport if you need one. Recommended as a budget hideaway. Mai Khao Beach Bungalows is closed in the low season.

The closest I could get to a desert island hidaway. mai-khao-beach.com well reccommended
