What we say:

Until recently, this operation was one of the only options along this stretch of Mai Khao Beach. Well, people have caught on and two pricey resorts now hug Mai Khao Beach Bungalows. Don’t worry — the massive building hasn’t altered the hideaway vibe. Due to strong monsoon rains and winds, the family has built new sturdy bungalows, rooms and an enormous concrete restaurant. We miss the entirely bamboo huts and old restaurant but it’s still a great spot. The friendly staff, beautiful beach, library sala and hammocks provide a setting you may find yourself staying in longer than planned. Rates do not include breakfast. Call ahead to arrange airport pick up and in low season contact them beforehand to check they are open as they were closed when we last passed in August 2011.

Fantastic Friendly Basic Unspoilt Beach & Bungalows

I have stayed @ Mai Khao Beach Bungalows many times over the last 5 years (both before and after sunami). This accomodation is clean, friendly (beautiful family) and away from the busy streets of Phuket town. Not to mention the food! Wow! I would like to add this family has only 4 bungalows (though they do sometimes allow camping on land) and is not associated with the newer bungalows that have recently opened next door. Please note the link to the site above is not for this accomodation... Mai Khao Beach Bungalows are listed in the rough guide with correct contact details and I urge you to take the extra time to look up the correct accomodation as you wont regret it.
