Description
It's nothing fancy, but the Siam Palm is a cosy little spot with genuinely friendly staff -- something you don't encounter too often in Patong. At first the rooms seem a little dated, but on closer inspection, they are really sort of quaint and homey -- like staying in the spare room at a relative's house. All room are air-con and with satellite TV, hot showers, mini-bars, and WiFi. The superior and deluxe rooms have king-sized beds, DVD players, and complimentary supplies for making coffee and tea. The location is great, too -- in a quiet little soi not too far from the beach. The staff are excellent at arranging reasonably priced transportation, booking tours, and, if you ask nicely, will store your luggage for free. The prices are quite reasonable and include taxes, service charges, and breakfast for two.

Blue Ocean Resort
210/23 Soi Kepsap, Patong Beach
One in a cluster of very similar hotels on Soi Kepsap, the Blue Ocean has big, clean and reasonably maintained rooms stacked in two storeys around a rather unexciting L-shaped pool. The room amenities are exactly what guests require -- TV, mini-fridge, air-con, and a hot shower -- and nothing more.... more

Boomerang Inn
5/3-4 Hat Patong Rd, Patong Beach
In a quiet setting off the main road, the Boomerang Inn has simple air-con rooms and a small pool. The standards and facilities are high for a guesthouse, but their room rates during the peak season are way out of their league. The air-con rooms come with one, two, or three double beds -- but an... more

Andatel Hotel
41/9 Rat-u-thit 200 Pi Rd, Patong Beach
As a flashpacking choice, this cute three-storey hotel is a very good value. Even though it's just off the main road, the Andatel is quiet and private. The rooms are spacious and clean with cool concrete floors, air-con, cable TV, bar fridge and small verandas overlooking the pool. Ask for a room... more

The Minotel
19 Sawatdirak Rd, Patong Beach
A long-running budget spot, the small Minotel is trying to make itself over as a boutique guesthouse. We assume an exterior revamp was on the way when we passed through, but in the meantime the renovated rooms are a good start. They've got a fresh coat of paint, new linens with some colourful... more

C&N Hotel
151 Rat-u-thit 200 Pi Rd, Patong Beach
The recent renovations at the C&N Hotel have done a lot for its first impressions -- a prim new exterior, a bright new lobby, a big restaurant with free WiFi -- but haven't given this dull mid-sized hotel any more charm. The rooms too have been fixed up and come with one double or two twin beds,... more

Connect Rooms
Paradise Complex 125/8-9 Rat-u-thit 200 Pi, Patong Beach
Located on one of the sois off the beach road, parallel to Bangla Rd, the entrance to the Connect is guarded by a Greek satyr-like statue and above a bar that wouldn't look out of place in San Francisco's Castro district. This guesthouse courts and attracts a largely gay clientele but, whatever... more

Koh Kaew Mansion
207/50 Rat-u-thit Rd, Patong
It doesn't get any cheaper than this, folks. Sure, the rooms aren't perfect -- the sink leaked, the bed was springy, and even our grandma would say the curtains are out-dated, but you can't expect much for this price in Phuket, after all. The rooms were a bit gloomy, but sufficiently comfortable... more

Casa Jip
207/10 Rat-u-thit Road, Patong
In the cluster of cheapies across from the Christin Massage complex, Casa Jip stands out by not feeling sleazy what-so-ever. In fact, this was one of our favourite spots in Phuket and not just because of their super-reasonable prices. Even starting with the shopfront reception with its single... more
