Thalang Guesthouse
Getting dumpy

What we say:
From the bright yellow exterior, lobby and stairwells, the Thalang appears to be the perfect guesthouse. Free computers and WiFi in the lobby, tour brochures aplenty and the free breakfast are all great but the rooms are starting to show some age with peeling paint — some even suffer from a musty scent. It is a popular place among budget travellers though so if you are really keen, shoot for one of the free-standing rooms on the roof of the building, which are airy and massive. All rooms are fan or air-con with hot water showers and they vary in size so try to see a few before choosing if they'll let you.

Musty room
We stayed in a double room here (no balcony) in March 2011 for 390b including breakfast. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The building is old but pretty charming and they've made an effort to perk it up with bright walls and paintings. Our room was huge with bathroom attached and was a mixed bag of tricks. It smelt quite dank or musty. The walls were solid but noise came in from the stairwell. There was boiling hot water in the shower but low shower pressure. The biggest drawback was bed bugs - we think these were in the blanket which we threw off and didn't see them again, but it made for an uneasy night's sleep. Overall it was very good value for money and the staff were lovely, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt on the bed bug front and recommend it. Free WiFi was a plus.

Friendly and clean
We stayed for a night in a double fan room for 390. The room was huge and clean with a comfortable bed. The thing that made it for us was the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff (something that is sometimes missing at the budget end of accom in Thailand). The included breakfast is a simple affair of toast, a banana and tea/coffee but that's always fine with us. Only a short 10 min walk to the bus station too. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Thalang Guesthouse.

i was in thailand due to my study.than at the end of my study my wife came from pakistan to thailand and we both decided to go phuket..our one friend already told us about the thalang guest house ,so we booked a room early.the staff of thalang, picked us from the airport.the guest house was very cheap, and centrally located in pkuket town, staff was very soft and caring.next day morning the hotel arranged a trip for us to phi phi ireland.so our stay at thalang guest house was memorable.i will again wanted to go and stay at thalang....... dr khalid(Pakistan)

Basic But Good
I stumbled upon this guesthouse after discovering that my first choice was closed and in the midst of heavy duty refurbishing. I got a free standing room on the roof for 300 baht which was was quite large with a colour scheme I wouldn't have personally chosen. However it was quiet and comfortable with soap and mineral water supplied. The staff there were also good. Forthcoming with information. The free breakfast was also a bonus. Couldn't say I was seduced by the charms of Phuket Town but I was impressed with the manager here.

Unsure
Large rooms, not kept too well, with worn interiors and tacky mismatched furniture. We had to move late at night as the staff had sprayed a toxic smelling mosquito spray in the room. We were refunded our money no problem. Good location but try to book ahead and get the rooms at the front with the balconies.

Bedbugs!
I liked everything about the place -- atmospheric big room, friendly staff, striking heritage building, great location, good price -- but the bedbugs drove me out after one night.

it´s ok
I stayed 2 nights there. I got a single room with fan and bathroom for THB280/night. It´s centrally located, between the bus station and the songthaews stop.

Good value.
We stayed 2 nights, dbl A/C room with private bathroom 450B per night. Safety box in room, bring own padlock. Free breakfast (toast, marmalade, banana, and coffee/tea). Spacious room, friendly staff, good central location. Best to book ahead, others we arrived with had not booked and had to go elsewhere. Request a balcony room if poss. Enjoyed our stay here.

Rough and warn.
Much worse than I expected. Maybe I am not used to the bottom end guest houses but this is for the seriously frugal. I stayed one night and moved on in the morning. Strong smell of insecticide. Double with air-con 450B
