Rattanasin Hotel
Past its use-by date

What we say:
Possibly older than the city of Ranong itself, the Rattanasin used to pull in backpackers when it was the only lodgings offering 100B rooms. Those days are now over, and the Rattanasin is frankly looking over the hill as well. Though the rooms are run-down, the beds are relatively new, and the hotel still offers better value for money than the nearby Sin Ranong and Asia Hotel.

Same price - but a paradise compared to Sintavee
I found this place after exiling myself from Sintavee Hotel. At 200 Baht (fan), it is much much more value for money - the entire hotel appeared to have been recently refurnished. The one I stayed in (it was big) had a renovated toilet, clean walls and new comfortable bed. Even the furniture had been given a shiny layer of lacquer. As all fan rooms face the street, you might want to consider the air-conditioned ones, which are probably less noisy. At night the dessert shop opposite of the hotel serves lots of tasty food. Walk down the road towards north and you will find quite a nice watering holes.

Recently renovated
The Entrance and Lobby still look 1000 years old; but the rooms have been renovated; rooms are bright and clean now, new matresses, nice bathrooms. One should have a look at some rooms first as they are quite different in style and level of noise from the street. Of course the price has gone up too; it is 200Baht now.
