Varin Resort
Impersonal staff, tacky atmosphere

What we say:
Arriving on Pattaya beach you don't have to look far to find Varin -- the enormous sign with a tacky sculpture of a yellow and blue swordfish sticks out like a ghastly hang nail. It's a massive resort with more than 70 rooms right in the middle of the beach. It's so big, in fact, that they need a golf cart to bring you to the cheaper cookie cutter rooms lined in neat rows that are so far away that it's hard to label them as part of a beach resort. The fan rooms we saw were on the dirty side, and at these prices they're best avoided. The air-con rooms are a step up -- they're clean, at least, and have TVs and hot water showers. Staff were apathetic and impersonal, seemingly wanting to shuffle the tourists through while exerting as little effort as possible. Check out is at the early hour of 10:00, and a sign in the lobby warns, If you leave after 10AM have to pay 500 baht. If that doesn't make you want to avoid this place, we don't know what will.

Good Room, Feckless Staff
We had a pleasant, comfy, decent value room here. Rarely ate in the restaurant. The mostly teenaged staff really could hardly be bothered with serving customers; much more fun to chit-chat w/ your co-workers.

great location forget the staff
My wife and I stayed for 1 week here in Feb 09.Couldn't fault the location but avoided the cooked cold breakfast and ate all our meals elsewhere.Good a/c bungalows but very indifferent staff here, obviously due to the high turnover of people. So stay here and eat elsewhere found the rest of Lipe really good

Cheap and great
This place is the best place to stay if you want something good, cheap and clean. We paid 200 baht a night back in Nov. of 2005 for a nice, airy room with a great bathroom. Best bed we slept on our entire four months in Thailand. The thing was friggin' HUGE! Particularly by Thai standards.
