Viewpoint Resort
Quiet bungalows, great views

What we say:
Sharing the rocky end of Sunrise beach with three luxury resorts, Viewpoint has a peaceful, secluded feel to it. It's one of the few Chao Lay-run operations on Ko Lipe, and staff are friendly but less attentive than at most resorts. It's simply more of a help yourself rather than let me help you attitude. While a few of the bungalows are right on the isolated beach that's shared with Serendipity Resort, most are built on a hill overlooking the bay, and some are a steep climb uphill and up stairs. The bungalows are basic and rustic and many have wide cracks between floorboards that can let in crawling creatures, so be prepared -- this isn't the Hilton. The rooms are, however, outfitted with big beds with decent mattresses, fans, mosquito nets, and have Western bathrooms. Some have fabulous sea views, and the price goes up accordingly.

Nice spot, indifferent staff
Paid 400 for a clean front row bungalow with a view of the beach and sea. Some of the bungalows don't have much of a view, mainly of trees but it is quiet and relaxing. The usual jungle vermin: three rats, a frog and a lizard that landed on my head in the bathroom! Occasionally a toilet smell on the path behind the front row bungalows. The beach is nice but soon full of people from other resorts. The restaurant food is average and service not friendly. The staff were often asleep and were completely indifferent to people asking about rooms or trying to reserve but I think this was largely down to a lack of English being spoken. Still, I came to relax not interact with the staff so I didn't mind. The final night I was there it was pretty windy in the early hours and I woke up to find the entire front of my neighbours' bungalow missing! It had blown away during the night. I noticed several other bungalows with big holes, but it must have been pretty scary to wake up to that in the dark and not be able to even turn on the light.

Rustic like the good old days
Huts are built up steep hillside behind 2 attractive bays, all with nice views - trad woven-bamboo+thatch-roof style, various sizes - one-bed to spacious. March prices from 300 to 400. Mine was big, up a set of killer steps, 2nd highest, amazing views. Most huts have easier access. Mine solid, clean, lots of room for 2+gear, king-double bed with thick new comfy mattress&pillows, ornate top-cover/sheets+good mozzie net. 1 towel and hand towel No soap no toilet paper no hammock broken light switch. Veranda opened into hut by bifold drs. Lots of hooks, some wall shelves and lots of storage on wall frame. Bathroom had western toilet, awesome water pressure and good mirror. Caveat-higher huts cut into jungle - night crashes&thrashes in bush + a few meece scuttling across rafters. Rustic. No-frills beachlevel restaurant, food nice, prices bit higher than av. service fast if a bit dour. But owner friendly and obliging. Small bays had good beaches & swimming+snorkeling except at lowest tide
