Budget hotel with air-con comforts
Pakbara town
Satun Province
Tel: (074) 783 499

Description
If bungalows aren't your style, then this is the closest Pakbara has to a hotel. With its new sign and well-maintained grounds the Grand Villa is quite attractive from the outside, inside, the boxy rooms are tidy and comfortable, although a bit dreary. All rooms are air-con with double beds and TVs (sorry, Thai-language channels only). The attached western-style bathrooms are clean but austere, and the hotel really ought to invest in some hot water heaters for the showers. Of all the accommodations in town, Grand Villa is the furthest from the pier and seems a long hike if you're carrying your pack. Possibly for this reason, it's mostly frequented by package tourists with pre-arranged transportation. The seafood restaurant on the ground level only opens when the hotel is busy, and staff speak surprisingly limited English.

Andrew Tour
Pakbara town
Look closely and you'll see there's a banner advertising that this busy travel agency also has rooms for rent. More of a homestay than a guesthouse, above the shop are some nondescript bedrooms otherwise filled by napping staff and family members. Each room has one big firm bed and a fan, or you... more

Happy House
Pakbara town
Away from the buzz of the main road, Happy House is in a separate world of head-scarved school girls and prized fighting roosters. This newer split-level building is bright and clean, and the spacious rooms have some of the softer mattresses in Pakbara. All rooms have a double bed, TV, table and... more

Best House Resort
Pakbara town
If you're not saving your baht to blow on the islands, these smart bungalows are the best that Pakbara has to offer. Clustered around a small lagoon, the bungalows have big windows to let the sunlight stream inside and comfortable beds with soft linens. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms and an... more

Bara Bungalows
Pakbara town
Built in a gravel-paved clearing, Bara's has an assortment of sturdy bungalows shaded by palm trees. The smaller fan bungalows are not for the claustrophobic -- the rough concrete walls and low ceilings create the sensation you're inside a cave. Air-con bungalows are brighter, roomier, and... more

Diamond Beach Bungalows
Beachside, Pakbara
With a variety of budget bungalows and a sea-side location, Diamond Beach is a winner. The bungalows and restaurant have been constructed on the sandiest stretch of the Pakbara beach and it's possible to swim during high tide. The air-con bungalows are the newest additions, but there's only a... more
