Marina Resort

Cheap, laidback bungalows on the ocean

What we say: 4 stars

The Marina Resort is a bit of a walk from the pier, but for budget value and relaxed atmosphere it's the best Pakbara has to offer. The large concrete air-con bungalows are set around a breezy lawn directly facing the beach. The bamboo fan bungalows also catch the ocean breeze and are good value as well. All rooms are tastefully simple and spacious with tile floors, big windows, cold-water bathrooms with squat toilets, and large porches with ocean views. It's a small, family-run spot with a very relaxing vibe. Limited English is spoken, but the owner is a gentle older woman who will do her best to welcome you. She's also an excellent cook, meaning Marina has one of the better restaurants in Pakbara. Getting here is a little tricky. Start by walking down the main road away from the pier. Once you pass Diamond House and then Pakarang Resort on your right, look for a blue and yellow sign with red and white Thai writing, also on the right. There's no English on this sign but the Resort's phone number is there. From here follow the arrow down the small road towards the ocean and just 50 or so metres down you'll see the English sign for Marina Resort on the left. Alternately, walk down the beach from Diamond House and Marina is not far, located right on the beach.
