A very good budget option
21-23 Thamnoonvitti Rd, Hat Yai
Songkhla Province
Tel: (074) 220 966

Description
The Louise Guesthouse attracts a steady trade of backpackers who just cannot bear the rundown Cathay up the road. Rooms, while spartan are very clean and well looked after, and the location, justa short walk from both the train station and the shopping district, is excellent. Management are also very friendly. On the way up the stairs, be sure to check out the photos of Hat Yai when it was flooded. Arguably the best backpacker's option in Hat Yai.

Cathay Guesthouse
93/1 Niphat Uthit 2 Rd, Hat Yai
Promoting itself as the traveller's centre in Hat Yai, the long-running Cathay Guesthouse could really do with a hosing out and a coat of paint, yet it remains the most popular backpacker's spot in Hat Yai. Loaded with traveller info and noticeboards, this is a good place to meet other travellers... more

Diamond Plaza Hotel
62 Niphat Uthit 3 Rd, Hat Yai
The Diamond Plaza has a very glitzy foyer with professional staff, which is let down by pretty ordinary rooms. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but the bathroom in the room we saw was very poor. On the upside, the views are great and the hotel has a pool and the location is very central. The... more

Hat Yai Rama Hotel
9/5 Sripoovanart Rd, Hat Yai
The Hat Yai Rama doesn't look like much from outside, but the rooms are surprisingly bright and airy, making this a reasonable choice as long as you don't mind the fifteen minute walk to the shopping district. Rooms have firm beds and spotless bathrooms, cable tv and air-con. For these prices, it... more

Yong Dee Hotel
99 Niphat Uthit 3 Rd, Hat Yai
The Yong Dee is set smack in the heart of Hat Yai's shopping district, making this a hit amongst shopaholics. While the hotel has a bright and icy-cold foyer with friendly desk staff, the rooms are not even luke warm. Old and rather banged up bathrooms are not great and the mattress in the room we... more

Laem Thong Hotel
46 Thamnoonvitti Rd, Hat Yai
Almost opposite the Cathay Guesthouse, the Laem Thong is a popular choice amongst backpackers and flashpackers alike. Rooms are clean though basic and while the bathrooms can sometimes be a little average, this remains quite good value -- the air-con rooms are better value than the fan rooms. Lime... more

VL Hatyai Hotel
1-3-5-7 Niphat Uthit 1 Rd, Hat Yai
Located to the north of the shopping district, the 100 room VL Hat Yai sits atop a very busy intersection, and though the rooms are surprisingly quiet, the location is anything but scenic. Nevertheless the friendly staff do try hard to convince you that the VL is just right for you, and the very... more

New World Hotel
152-156 Nipat Uthit 2 Rd, Hat Yai
The New World Hotel is quite close to the train station and while it looks passable from outside, the corridors and rooms are very musty and the street-side rooms get significant traffic noise. Rooms have tv, air-con and hot water bathrooms, which, for the money is not a bad deal, but overall the... more

Ladda Guesthouse
Thamnoonvitti Rd, Hat Yai
While the rooms here are passable in size, you have to go to the fourth floor if you want a window -- this only adds to the generally claustrophobic feel of the whole place. Rooms are dank and dark (not surprising as many don't have windows) and while they're cheap, Louise Guesthouse nearby is far... more

Montien Hotel
120-124 Niphat Uthit 1 Rd, Hat Yai
According to the friendly desk clerk, one American guest has been staying at the Montien for over three years straight now -- the question begs, why? Frayed and torn carpet line the corridors and the rooms, which while barely adequate are at least surprisingly quiet. While is remains one of the... more
