Description
Pha Ngan Rainbow's bungalows vary widely in comfort and quality. A few old and very shabby little hovels without bathrooms line the narrow unshaded beach here. Larger wooden huts are also available, including some lovely new Thai style units with pitched roofs and carved wood decor. These are the way to go, spotless and spacious, they are quite comfortable. The old huts, while they remain popular among shoestring travellers, detract from the classier feel here provided by the new bungalows and the comfortable beachfront restaurant.

Coach Bungalows
Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
Separated from the beach by a narrow grassy grove, Coach is a fine deal. The rooms here are basic wooden island-style huts, the smaller and cheaper of which sit nearest the beach and the larger ones behind the restaurant amidst a palm grove garden. All of their rooms are spacious, well-kept and... more

Lee Garden
Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
Lee Garden is a very chilled spot in a quiet location on a decent stretch of beach. The large wooden bungalows here are very sturdy and well-kept. These bungalows are privately spaced around a shaded garden grove and the relaxed restaurant has a second-storey loft for hanging out with a drink and... more

My Phangan Resort
17/5-6 Moo 4, Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
My Phangan has well-priced and comfortable huts on one of the best and widest stretches of Ban Kai beach. The attractive island huts here spread from the beach around a scrubby coconut grove whose tall, unkempt grass and shrubs could stand some maintenance. Bungalows come in wood, concrete and... more

Green Peace Bungalows
Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
One of the originals in this area, Green Peace is popular among penny pinching backpackers. It's a very peaceful and laid-back place with very cheap bungalows along a small rocky beach. The bungalows, available with or without a private bathroom, are cramped little wooden shacks, very worn and... more

Blue Lotus Resort
29/3 Ban Kai Beach, Ko Pha Ngan
A friendly family runs Blue Lotus and has one of the best and most diverse restaurants around, certainly in Ban Kai. Set just off the beach, they serve cheap Thai food but specialise in Mexican food and English pies. A strange mix, but you'll never get tired of eating here. This is a quiet spot,... more

Moon Flower
Bang Nam Kem Road, Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
A very cool and musical place, Moon Flower is a recent addition to the Ban Kai scene. Under Dutch ownership and run by a super hospitable English couple, this is hands down the friendliest place around and has a laid-back and social atmosphere. The restaurant is very relaxed and serves excellent... more

Copa Cabana
Ao Ban Kai, Ko Pha Ngan
Copa Cabana have a handful of large stone and concrete bungalows, and they are building more to augment their collection of cramped little shabby beach huts. The old units are very worn inside and out, while the new ones are very large and well-built for much more comfort and far fewer bugs and... more
