The long-running Charlie's Huts is closing in June 2006 to makeway for a new Amari Resort. One of the last of the backpacker havens on Chaweng, your best bet for a cheap bed on Chaweng beach is now towards the northern end of the beach.
Contact details:
Chaweng Beach, Ko Samui.

Good Basic Huts, Cheap for Samui - 16th June, 2006
Still getting over the shock of 700 baht for a basic hut with air con, but prices are high in this part of Samui, it is not really a backpacker area. Charlie's is clean and very close to the beach, the area is pretty quiet at night and the bathrooms okay, cold water showers though! Food was good!! And the staff helpful if a little too laid-back at times, but certainly not rude or grumpy. Best bet if you want to save the pennies and stay in Chaweng. Very well located on the main strip.

I can't believe... - 18th August, 2006
...that charlie's is no more. I stayed there many times over the years and it has a special place in my travelling memories, i hope it finds another location and can continue the backpacker odysee...

Great location, great price. - 17th April, 2005
The place is wonderful. Beautiful gardens, lovely bungalows. Air-con ones (700B) much better newer than the fan ones, which cost 300B ... really cheap! The beach is beautiful, the restaurant is pretty good. I liked the food there, and it has a great view. The manager is a very unfriendly woman, she makes you feel she is doing a favour to you, not the way back. Too bad because except for that the rest is good. Other girls in reception are so much nicer. Some staff from the restaurant are really unfriendly and lazy, some are really nice. That's the only criticism I have to make, the rest is positive. The location couldn't be better. Recommended.
