Baan Chaweng Beach Resort and Spa
Decent value and very popular

What we say:
This reasonably new resort offers beachfront and near-the-beach rooms which are spacious, spotless and luxurious. The surroundings are pleasant, with lush, well-loved gardens and an ideally-placed beachfront pool. The rooms are very spacious, with polished wooden floors and are tastefully furnished. The fine strip of sand out front has some great shade trees and gets pretty crowded as this is the first stretch of swimmable beach when coming from the northern end of Chaweng. All rooms are aircon with hot water, TV, mini-bar and IDD phones. Very popular, reservations are recommended, particularly in high season. Deckchair freeloaders can expect to be chased away by the very defensive staff.

Decent value
This was a very clean, newish resort with a nice pool. It is located at the first good swimming on Chaweng beach, and is a bit of a zoo because everyone staying at the cheaper accomodation to the north come down to swim right in front of the hotel. This is a good thing if you like half nekkid europeans & people watching and a bad thing if your goal is calm and quiet. The room (superior deluxe) was clean and comfortable, with good air-con. My only beef was with the service -- we were misquoted a room rate & the staff refused to bring us a top sheet the first night (the rooms are only stocked with cotton comforters). Everything got straightened out, but have them write down the room rates.
