Ark Bar Garden - Beach Resort
Popular with the party animals

What we say:
The party-animals perennial favourite, the best offerings at Ark Bar are in the two storey building running back through the resort's grounds. Rooms are spotless and very well maintained, though, with their glass fronted style, the ground floor rooms are anything but private. Running down the centre is a narrow though lush stripe of grenery till you reach the small pool on your left and the restaurant after that. The beach restaurant and bar play loud tunes into the early hours every night, so if you're a light sleeper, you may want to look elsewhere, or opt for a room at the rear of the resort. Staff here are great. There are also older rooms towards the beach, but unless you've got industrial grade earplugs they should be a non-starter. Very popular.

Dreadful. Never again.
We stayed at the Ark Bar recently and it wasn’t our best experience in Thailand. I appreciate it caters for the younger clubbing, alcoholic crowd but that is no excuse for the level of service. Check in was rude, made to feel like we were getting in the way, no smile and hardly any eye contact. Our room was ok, reasonable size and cleaned every afternoon, but no safe. We had breakfast there one morning, Ark Bar 3 I heard someone call it. Table was dirty but food was ok, after one of the waitresses threw the plates on the table and didn’t say a word, didn’t smile or even look at us. Seems a common theme with their staff? We had breakfast the rest of the time at other places even though it was included with our room rate. After a couple of nights eating elsewhere we decided to see what it was like in the evening. So we walked from our room to the restaurant. We were greeted by about a dozen staff laughing loudly, standing by the kitchen hatch. They were more interested in laughing and pointing. Very rude. Nobody said hello, we were ignored once again. We went to a table on the beach and waited 20 minutes before anyone came with menus, then another 15 minutes before someone else came with our drinks. On the beach the waiters seemed more interested in sitting down at a table together. Understandable if it was busy, but there weren’t many people there. The staff consistently seemed more interested in themselves than doing what they are paid for. Snapper and lobster arrived in about 10 minutes, tasted nice but wasn’t hot. Waited over 15 minutes for more drinks to arrive and guess what, we got the bill in less than a minute. I guess they were glad to see us go. Daytime the place is noisy with flights and building work. We can live with that. But come night time when you are trying to sleep the staff don’t care about noisy neighbours. We have been coming to Thailand for over 10 years and this is the first time we stayed at Ark Bar. NEVER AGAIN. Me and my wife will not go back there, we should have stayed at our usual place. Only good thing was the food and even that wasn’t hot enough. Traveller friends from USA, Israel, Australia and Europe have stayed there and they are all sympathetic to what I have said, they have all had bad times in one way or another at the place. If anyone from Ark Bar reads this I think you should re-train your staff on looking after customer s properly and make people feel they are welcome. The building work seems to imply they are expanding their business, interesting as the place hardly seemed half full to us. They should encourage people to visit them more than once. Just felt like they wanted our money and do nothing for it! Check out was more hassle, made to feel like criminals by the desk on their walkie-talkies checking up on us. They didn’t even say thank you or goodbye!!! Me and my wife, and a lot of our friends will not be back there.
