Coral Bungalows
Party palace

What we say:
A very lively and social place, this is where the party people stay on Sunset Beach. The restaurant/bar, swimming pool and movie lounge are always crowded at this immensely popular setup. Coral throws regular pool parties and also has a Full Moon warm up to get things going on the right foot. Ugly red fake-stone bungalows and guesthouse buildings line the shaded garden. The restaurant features long cafeteria-style plastic tables for feeding the mobs, and for the popular gala dinner on Full Moon night. Accommodations for all budgets include fan bungalows, which are a little smelly but spacious, and larger, more comfy rooms in the guest house with hot showers and air-con. Though most rooms are set back away from the pool and party area, steer clear if you're looking for a tranquil and clean place to stay. The common areas bear the brunt of the mayhem and are a total state most of the time. The young and lively crowd here pays no heed to the phases of the moon, they just want to party.

Spring Break lives
The room was good, reasonable priced, and everything you need is onsite(internet, restaurant etc) - great sunsets from the pool/restaurant - BUT the nightlife/pool party is for the very young/spring break sort of crowd, if that's your thing. A far walk if you are going to Haad Rin beach to hang/party, you need a bike or taxi, otherwise maybe 15min walk.

The rudest staff I ever encountered anywhere in the world
The reception staff in this place is rude beyond imagination. On many occasions when I spoke to them in English, they would answer me in Thai, and from their intonation it clearly seemed they are cursing me. At some point they moved to openly insulting me in English. I don't know what I did to deserve such treatment. I never cause any troubles of any kind in any place I visit. I also completely ignored their insults. Arguing with them wouldn't have served any point and I tried to avoid the reception as much as I could. In other senses this is a fine place. You meet other travelers in the bar and there is a good atmosphere between guests. The staff however is horrific. If I could give a score of -10 for the staff, it still wouldn't do it justice.

Solid Building, cheap
At promotion price of 500bh air con room, it is sbsolutely worth the money. Fantastic large room, 1 big and anoterh small bed. Bathroom is also generous in size, hot shower availbabel. Large clean towels. Its party atmosphere here. Strictly for foreigners and westerners only. The pool, just next to the beach. Kitchen staff are freindly. Look for ATT, a burmese waiter, with fluent British accent. Even thoug its low season in July, rooms alre always fully booked up. Suggesst make bookings early. Almost all facilites are cheap, even the food is cheap. Fried vegetable rice is only 60bh, massage is at 150bh per hour. Money is not everything here, so thats what ATT said to me. We want everyguest to be happy.

very good
I stayed at bungalow fan private b'room (with hot water)(promotion 300 baht/day - normal price 500 baht). Low season. Excellent bungalow (the best i have in thailand) and very cheap. Good restaurant and the pool :)) But ... if you are not a party man(woman) it could be difficult to relax, there are parties almost every night around the pool.

Can't wait to go back
Got a beautiful, quiet room with teak interior, AC, Hot water, and room for 3 (quite comfortably ) for 600B per night. No windows was kind of a downer but after a good night at coral, the last thing you want to see in the morning is the sun. Trust me. Staff is mostly young and fun if slightly on the lazy side. Food is cheap and mostly delicious. pool is great, especially for a place this innexpensive. The Beach out front is nice to look at, but otherwise pretty useless because of rocks. The good beach is a 5-10 minute walk away. I loved staying here, had the time of my life and made some lasting friendships with some of the other guests. Warning: Coral is really best of the young at heart. If you want peace and serenity on your beach vacation, stay away. If you want to party, this is one of the happiest places on earth.

Party hotel!
Stayed here for four nights for the Feb Full Moon Party. Its definitely a party hotel, the average age of the guests was about 20, and most seemed to be from Melbourne. The waiters at the restaurant just wanted everyone to have a good time. Stayed in an a/c room with a double bed and a single. For some reason there were no sheets, this seemed to be a common problem amongst other guests at the hotel. The rooms were pretty basic but still very nice. The hotel is right on the beach, but the beach isn't that great. The pool is nice and the food at the restaurant is good and pretty cheap. Not the place to stay if you want to relax, there are parties every night around the pool.

Okay but a few minor criticisms
Staying here was a mixed bag. The water went off a couple of times which isn't ideal when you've just come back from the gym and want a shower. Also the electricity went off one night which meant the fan went off which meant I got bitten as the room didn't have a mosquito net. On the other hand the staff were friendly and the restaurant served nice tasting meals. However, the meals would regularly be served with items missing, e.g. set breakfast without the bacon, American fried rice without the fried egg, and occasionally they would overcharge slightly for meals. Overall it wouldn't be my first choice for a place to stay, but despite my criticisms I still thought it was okayish. Also, the prices when I were there were 150B, 200B and 300B for fan rooms/bungalows, and 500B for air-con.
