Leela Beach
Popular last resort

What we say:
Leela seems to be a last resort for backpackers when the rest of the area's budget accommodations fill up at full moon time. The majority of the huts sit at various elevations on a hill well off the beach. These worn old shacks are accessed by treacherous dirt and rock non-paths and feature broken windows, grotty little squat toilet bathrooms and a funky old mattress. These are recommended to desperate penny pinchers only. A handful of decent newer Thai style brick huts line the beach along with some two storey multi-room air-con shanties. The air-con rooms here are overpriced considering the quality. Nonetheless, the crowd here is laid-back and social making the atmosphere far better than the accommodations. The staff is hit and miss, most are friendly most of the time but can be surly when issues arise. The best feature here is the inexpensive and tasty Thai restaurant on the beach where people tend to congregate to escape their nasty rooms.
