On the rustic to rundown time-space continuum, Leela Beach Resort sits well towards the latter.
Bungalows here enjoy some of the best beach frontage of Haad Sarikantang, but the huts really are in a mediocre state. While they offer more than a half-dozen different price points, the primary options are beachfront huts in fan and air-con flavours along with some extremely basic fan-cooled huts towards the western end of the resort. Of the three, the better-sized fan-cooled rooms would be our choice as the brick-build air-con bungalows are, well, quite ugly, and the room we were shown was pretty fumey inside. They are similar sized though and all have verandas, which would be ideal for sunset viewing with a cold drink. The bungalows have no hammocks but a few are scattered about the low scrubby trees that run in front of the resort, along with some swings and motley wooden deckchairs. A spacious relaxed restaurant area (with a real lounge!) would also be a comfortable spot for a sundowner. Leela Beach shares the same owner as the decidedly flasher CocoHut and we wouldn't be surprised if this was replaced with a fancier affair in the coming years, as it really is quite rundown. That said, if you're on a budget and want absolute beachfront without paying the earth, this is your only option on Haad Sarikantang.
