A cool hilltop hangout

Sairee View makes you feel like you're at the top of the island, and you pretty much are.
Very isolated at the top of a rocky staircase running up a boulder-littered hillside north of Sairee, Sairee View is a peaceful spot for backpackers. The view from the grassy hilltop is phenomenal and never gets old. The all-white restaurant and bar deck serves simple, well-priced food and drinks, and is an amazing place to watch the sun go down and chill out. The 10 rooms are well-worn, wooden Thai-style bungalows with cold water, fans and mosquito nets. The inside is a bit nicer than the outside would suggest, but these are certainly still a budget option. There are several much nicer, though more expensive, rooms above the main building, but they are usually rented out to long-term visitors. The friendly staff are happy to help and the resort offers free internet. While there is a pool, it has been under repair for so long at this point that it is more a visual blight than a perk of the place. Bizarrely, a main feature within the resort is a whale skeleton.
