Description
Silver Cliff, not surprisingly perched on the rocky cliff north of Sairee beach, is slightly overpriced but provides plenty of peace and quiet and wonderful views of the vast blue gulf. The huts here are spacious yet worn and very basic. They do have decent-sized decks perfect for enjoying sunsets or the cool breeze. The view from each room is amazing, but they get better the further down the cliff you get. The small, intimate restaurant sits at the top and provides the usual array of Thai and basic western dishes. Silver Cliff is best if you aren't planning on heading back and forth to the beach but rather want to relax with a good book or good company and soak up the view. After all, the view is what you're paying for.

Great Views - Good Value Cheapie -

In previous trips I’ve always thought the bungalows built high on the steep slopes north of Sairee Beach on Tao’s west coast looked pretty good and would have killer views. These are the sort of places that if you took a running jump off your balcony you would bounce once before splashing into the sea 50metres below. .So on my last trip I went up and got me one, at Silver Cliff Bunglows. 300 baht for a wooden bungalow built on and over a big granite boulder, attached bathroom with mirror, clean, solid, just enough room for two and their gear, fan, comfortable double bed with good mosquito net. The big verandah had a hammock and a great 100 degree tree and rock framed view of the ocean out there and down there, as did the small restaurant. But my favourite viewing spot was on top of a nearby huge granite boulder, the perfect sunset location with a bottle of Chang or Mae Khong.
The restaurant meals were pretty good with an astounding variety and some of the cheapest prices all trip. Service was quick and friendly.
There is a steep track to the seaside rocks way down there and the snorkeling is quite interesting right off the rocks but even more so about 40m out where the fringing coral reef is located. The restaurant rents out snorkeling gear.
Silver Cliff only has about 10 bungalows, some being considerably bigger, with aircon. The place is about 10 minutes walk downhill by road to the closest part of Sairee beach and a good 40 minutes into central Mae Hat and the ferry piers. No problems with a bicycle or motorcycle. 50 baht by motorbike taxi, 100 by car from town.
I rated this place 7.5/10 for bungalow, 8 food, 9 location, 8 staff, 8 grounds/setting and 8 overall

Sairee View makes you feel like you're at the top of the island, and you pretty much are. The view from the grassy hilltop is phenomenal and never gets... more
