Sairee Cottage
Ideal budget spot

What we say:
Sairee Cottage has a great range of accommodation to suit all depths of pockets. Their huts are well spaced around open grassy grounds with a good deal of tree cover. The cheaper bungalows are basic Thai-style wooden huts while the higher end rooms have a little class with attention paid to cosmetic detail. They also have a sand volleyball court in the central courtyard. While most rooms are set back just a few steps from the beach, Sairee Cottage has a relaxed beachfront restaurant serving inexpensive Thai and Western food. Their resort is open to divers and non divers alike but you will receive free or discounted accommodation when diving. The team here is sociable and accommodating -- a great place to hang out.

Dirty and Rude
I stayed at Sairee Cottage with my girlfriend in March 09 in order for her to get her Open Water diving certification (the hotel told us they would give us 500 Baht off each night's price, normally 1500 Baht/night, if we did a Scuba Diving course there). We travel all over Thailand, and the service here is the worst. We booked for 5 nights, and the hotel reception refused to give us any soap or toilet paper after the first day (they told us that they will ''sell'' it to us for ridiculous prices). There were rats running around the cottages every night. The dive instructor that Sairee Cottage provided to my girlfriend was extremely rude, impatient, mean, and downright disencouraging to any beginner open water diver (not to mention he is an old, skinny, tattooed Italian guy with black, rotting teeth). The hotel's Scuba diving instructor refused to give my girlfriend her final test for her Open Water certificate (he says that ''he didn't want to waste the other student's time by teaching her anymore''. My girlfriend completed her Open Water certificate one week later in the Philippines without complaint). To top it off, Sairee Cottage then charged us an additional 2,500 Baht for our hotel bungalow because they refused to allow my girlfriend to complete her Scuba certification (they hotel said afterward that the 500 Baht/night room discount is only for people who ''pass'' their scuba course). Ko Tao is beautiful, but staying or diving with Sairee Cottage will be a disappointment to your visit to the island. I would stay around Shark Bay instead.

Very comfortable and clean
Spent a week here just before the rainy season, very nice. Great cafe, view out over the Sea of Thailand was phenomenal at sunset. Great pubs nearby, bad bit is that there is a 7-eleven at the corner now.

A Great Stay - Definitely come back
We arrived on the 5th and 6th of July 05. Stayed in a meduim sized bungalow off the beach for 300B a night. beautiful little bungalow with balcony. only had a small fan, bed was a little hard, bring mossie coils, only has power between 6pm and 6am, no hot water, plenty of room for packs. they have a beautiful restaurant on the beach with wooden decks with cushions to sit/lay on with low height tables. staff are really friendly and there is cheap internet on site. staff have no problem arranging trips on and off the island at good rates. no doubt we will be back! two nights just wasn't enough, prepare to relax!!
