Nang Yuan Island Dive Resort
Isolated and comfortable

What we say:
The only setup on Nang Yuan Island, this resort was built in 1986 but has been steadily improved and updated since, with prices to match. What could be a rustic, peaceful setting is marred by constant boat traffic thanks to divers from around the island frequenting the area. Bungalows, suites and family-size accommodation are scattered around the adjacent hills connected by a stretch of soft white sand. Rooms are clean and comfortable and all have minibars, but are overpriced compared to what you'd get elsewhere on the island. The resort's coffee shop and beach restaurant have some spectacular views, but Travelfish readers have complained about the quality.

beautiful island
we spent four nights on Ko Nang Yuan, while passing our Open Water PADI with the dive centre. The bungalows are a bit small and there is no hot water. The food is awful. After four days, I could not wait to get into a decent restaurant in Bangkok. These points aside, the island is beautiful. When the day-trippers have left, it seems you have the place to yourself and so it's worth every beht -- even the terrible food is forgotten

Just back from Koh Nang Yuan which surpassed out expectations re spectacular scenery, clear clean water and environment. However there were some problems: a) Management is a bit "couldn't care less" -- they must make their money on daytrippers, so guests appear to be a pretty a low priority. b) We had hassles booking which I stupidly didn't do with Sawasdee; my deposit wasn't passed onto the resort by the local Ko Tao agency and no booking was made. They cancelled my booking and kept the money...still waiting for a refund as requested -- an ongoing saga. KNY Resort couldn't care less and charged me again anyway. c)We upgraded our room the next day (no flush toilets in cheaper room and a bit smelly -- while cleaned every day, there's no water to flush loos during the day. It's a water shortage problem apparently, but it would help if staff didn't tip out the bucket of water I left to do this each day...duh! d)Staff varied from reasonably helpful to surly with little or no English and switched right off. e) Take your own dvds for night-time -- satellite TV is switched off right after breakfast. 24hr air-con however...which you need! f) Food a bit 'hohum' and expensive -- but ok. g) Breakfast is huge piles of crumbly cake, bread (left to flies) and little in the way of fresh fruit, however the eggs and coffee were ok and there was lots of Asian noodles type stuff. h) Too many day-trippers. i) The dive school is ok but the gear for hire is a bit tired and ill-fitting. j) Restaurant toilets are appalling and not suitable for Westerners -- you have to wade through a foot-washing pond thing to the mandy (scoop) toilet which is seriously overworked and under-cleaned on busy days -- yuck!!! k) Sort out the transport -- the Lompraya catamaran should take you all the way to the Ko Nang Yuan not dump you at Ko Tao In conclusion, this place could be an real mecca, a goldmine if it were managed enthusiastically and pro-actively -- it is a fantastic spot, but it is just limping along at the moment. Would I go back? yes. Because of the location but would go prepared with snacks, extra water, dvds, books, my own dive gear(not tanks), sunscreen and all toiletries including extra toilet paper -- and I'd stay in the upmarket room which are divine...
