Baan Tapannoi
Basic hillside huts

What we say:
Located up the rocky and tree-shaded hill at the far northern end of Thong Nai Pan Noi, Baan Tapannoi has the cheapest accommodation in this area. This is because the simple and rather shabby wooden huts are uphill well away from the water, though the stunning views of the beach and the sea compensate somewhat. These worn old huts are small and drafty with the option of shared bathrooms -- really for too much money -- or a private squat toilet, and though the blanket-less beds are soft, the pillows are rock-hard. Two huts are offered on the beach here, which are clearly the best choice, but they're always the first to fill, and the beach is not the best here anyway. The laid-back little restaurant and thatch-roofed beach bar are Ban Tapannoi's greatest assets, providing a great atmosphere and good food, including mouthwatering barbecues every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The most affordable choice on Thong Nai Pan Noi, but certainly not the best.

A Xmas to Remember
We stayed at Baan Tapanoi for Xmas 2007. The ferry on the way to Koh Pan Ngan was so busy and left me thinking, ''How am I going to relax on this island?'' but when I reached this beach it was all I could have dreamed of and more. Idyllic setting, clean and simple bungalows and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff at Tapanoi were fun and charming, and the food in the restaurant delicious! And for those of you who want to steer clear of the Full Moon Party...the only evidence will be the smiles on the faces of those returning by boat in the early hours of the morning at the other end of the beach...that is if you are awake.
