Barcelona Resort takes up a large portion of the south end of Haad Yuan beach, considered the quieter end.
Three different types of around 30 fan-cooled, on-stilts bungalows stand in rows and are scattered up in to the hillside, all with varying views of the sea. Prices vary according to whether the bungalow has been renovated, the size, whether it has a shared bathroom and view. The balconies are reasonable, some with chairs and table, some with hammocks. The renovated rooms are clean, freshly painted and have new beds. The older ones are the same size but a little more rundown with sunken beds. Windows provide lovely natural lighting, unlike many other darker bungalows in the area. The restaurant overlooking the beach has private tables as well as large long tables for communal eating – there's little ambience though, despite the interesting and eclectic travellers passing through. Those staying here are expected to eat at least one meal per day in the restaurant, so if you are fasting, this isn't a great choice. It is the only restaurant to have a TV and a table tennis table. Off to the side in the garden is a beach volleyball court for guests and locals. In front of the restaurant a few old deck chairs are lined up but with the sand at this end of the beach being the most pristine in the area, lying on a sarong draped over it may be more enjoyable. Be sure to check out the massage here, as Kim is renowned for her strong hands. Be warned though -- many men have walked out in tears.
