Had Thian Resort offers the cheapest huts in the area.
Lined up in the shade by the beach close to The Sanctuary are the original set of bungalows now rented for long termers only. A new row of huts though, built further into the grassy field, are open to passersby. These back onto Guy's Bar, which is known for its all-night Friday parties but has been closed since mid-2014, bringing peace back to the area (it's rumoured to be re-opening by the year's end, so do check ahead of time). These 350 baht huts nestled into some trees are small and basic but the number of windows and natural light let in certainly make up for the small size. The field-facing wall is all glass and folds to open, connecting the room with the balcony in an open-plan feel, allowing for natural breeze and light. The bathrooms are an outdoor small courtyard with seat toilet and a large showerhead. Sitting on the little verandah allows for a view over the field to the sea, which can be seen from bed, too. The restaurant is very laid-back, offering cheap Thai and international food and with friendly and helpful staff. (The lovely woman there is happy to use her sewing machine to help with any basic alterations for a small fee. She is always somewhere close by, whether it be the kitchen or by the undersized shop selling the essentials). There's no WiFi but it is close enough to The Sanctuary to buy theirs. The electricity only runs 18:00-23:00 each night but longer in the restaurant where you can charge your electronics. Budget travellers who enjoy simple living should check this place out.
