Description
Candle Hut sits at the far northern end of Thong Nai Pan Yai and provides a long row of beach front bungalows on a fine stretch of sand. While well-situated, the bungalows are a bit overpriced -- they're very weathered and faded, but inside they are quite comfortable. The good-sized bungalows are clean and carpeted -- incredibly rare in a beach bungalows -- and have large sea-facing glass windows which let in lots of natural light. The larger units come equipped with two hammocks on their large seaward-facing decks. The management here are eager to please, but not everyone on the staff shares their spirit of service. Travel assistance and internet access are provided. A large laid-back restaurant on the beach serves steaks, seafood, pizza and cheap Thai food.

Lovely beach, but my stay was spoiled by a "disco" bar half way along the beach that played very loud music till 3am most nights, the inconsiderate people in the hut next door playing their stereo in the early hours and the yahoos that were shouting outside my room at 5am. It's hard to enjoy yourself when you haven't slept for 3 days.
They wanted 800B per night for a fan room, despite almost nobody staying there. The "travel agent" lady at Candle Hut charged me 1,000B for a VIP bus to Bangkok, but when I got to Thong Sala, I was booked on an ordinary bus, which cost about 700B -- there was no refund of the extra money paid, and no way to get back before the bus left. Left me with a very bad taste. It isn't the money, it's the principle.

Don't ask Candle Hut to book you a plane ticket! Lack of shade but beautiful huts facing the beach. The best food & lassies on the beach. Staff were very friendly too (not rude).

More options in Ko Pha Ngan East Coast
Pen's Bungalows
8/3 Thong Nai Pan Yai, Ko Pha Ngan
Pen's has a mixed bag of bungalow options to suit most budgets. The cheapest huts are weathered and really pretty crappy, while some newer Thai style huts with carved wooden features are in much better shape. A handful of bungalows sit on the beach, but most are packed together in a few lines... more
Central Cottage
6/3 Moo 5 Thong Nai Pan Yai, Ko Pha Ngan
Central Cottage has a variety of bungalows and a stone, motel-like building forming a couple of tight rows running back from the beach through the gardened grounds. The cheapest little huts are of a very simple, drafty, wooden variety and provide passable lodging for budget travellers. A selection... more
