Candle Hut Resort
Good beach huts

What we say:
Candle Hut sits at the far northern end of Thong Nai Pan Yai and provides a long row of beach front bungalows on a fine stretch of sand. While well-situated, the bungalows are a bit overpriced -- they're very weathered and faded, but inside they are quite comfortable. The good-sized bungalows are clean and carpeted -- incredibly rare in a beach bungalows -- and have large sea-facing glass windows which let in lots of natural light. The larger units come equipped with two hammocks on their large seaward-facing decks. The management here are eager to please, but not everyone on the staff shares their spirit of service. Travel assistance and internet access are provided. A large laid-back restaurant on the beach serves steaks, seafood, pizza and cheap Thai food.

Overpriced - Horrible staff
This is an honest review and a terrifying experience. We had booked to stay at the Candle Hut in 2008 over new years. Worried we wouldn't find anything we booked in advance and paid FAR TOO MUCH MONEY. When we arrived the room door was smashed and held together with tape. The door did not shut properly and could not be locked from the inside. We were also not allowed the air conditioning controller and if we wanted it amended we had to ask the reception. We had paid a lot for the room so we complained and they said we could have the taxi to and from the full moon party free - which we thought was very fair. The food is average there. The service is terrible. The taxi took us to the party and we had arranged to be picked up at 4am. We waited unti 7am, by this time there was 6 of us. After paying for a taxi back we found the man had fallen asleep. We therefore asked to be reinburst for the fee. This is when the man behind the counter started swearing at us and calling us crazy. He climbed onto a chair and started ranting. HE THEN PULLED OUT A KNIFE. I was obviously terrified and along with my boyfriend we went back to the room. HE FOLLOWED US. We packed our bags and left. He kept calling us and harrasing us. DO NOT STAY HERE. THE MAN IS DANGEROUS. The worst experience in my life and the whole of travelling.

Travel agent rip off
Lovely beach, but my stay was spoiled by a "disco" bar half way along the beach that played very loud music till 3am most nights, the inconsiderate people in the hut next door playing their stereo in the early hours and the yahoos that were shouting outside my room at 5am. It's hard to enjoy yourself when you haven't slept for 3 days. They wanted 800B per night for a fan room, despite almost nobody staying there. The "travel agent" lady at Candle Hut charged me 1,000B for a VIP bus to Bangkok, but when I got to Thong Sala, I was booked on an ordinary bus, which cost about 700B -- there was no refund of the extra money paid, and no way to get back before the bus left. Left me with a very bad taste. It isn't the money, it's the principle.

Gorgeous rooms, beautiful beach... good price too. Totally recommend Candle Hut -- I had no problems with the staff.

Excellent food & good service....
Don't ask Candle Hut to book you a plane ticket! Lack of shade but beautiful huts facing the beach. The best food & lassies on the beach. Staff were very friendly too (not rude).
