Description
Central Cottage has a variety of bungalows and a stone, motel-like building forming a couple of tight rows running back from the beach through the gardened grounds. The cheapest little huts are of a very simple, drafty, wooden variety and provide passable lodging for budget travellers. A selection of air-con rooms are more spacious and have much better beds. These rooms are good for families, some sleeping up to three people, and a playground of sorts is avaialble for small children on the beach. A decent thatch-roofed bar sits on the beach and has a laid-back vibe although the DJ plays mostly sappy pop music that can kill the cool island atmosphere.

Lately there have been lots of reports of peoples' rooms getting robbed here and the staff being rude and unhelpful in response. On top of that they have a new bar and the people there can be sketchy.

Poor service -

While I personally spent 3 1/2 months here in a bungalow right on the beach and loved every minute of it, I do not recommend Central Cottage. The owner has a serious mental problem in which she hallucinates various ills done to her by customers and is known to kick them out of her place at whim. I know of at least three people, not including myself, who had this problem. Usually it's something like she caught you eating at another bungalow restaurant (shock! horror!) instead of hers. She has no qualms about humiliating someone publicly for some ridiculous reason or another. I refuse to take my business to a place that does not know how to appreciate their paying customers. There are several much better, stress-free places to stay on this beach.

Very poor service & noisy. -

In the centre of the bay. Like Ibiza at night -- very noisy, not chilled at all. Very bad service in the day -- our waiter fell asleep in the middle of serving us, and we were often ignored/order forgotten. I think they were all hung-over from partying all night. Nice large clean rooms. Food was OK but not great. Don't stay here if you want to chill out, probably good if you want to party. We didn't so moved to Candle Hut.

Have you stayed at Central Cottage? What did you think?

Candle Hut
11/6 Moo 5, Thong Nai Pan Yai, Ko Pha Ngan
Candle Hut sits at the far northern end of Thong Nai Pan Yai and provides a long row of beach front bungalows on a fine stretch of sand. While well-situated, the bungalows are a bit overpriced -- they're very weathered and faded, but inside they are quite comfortable. The good-sized bungalows are... more

Pen's Bungalows
8/3 Thong Nai Pan Yai, Ko Pha Ngan
Pen's has a mixed bag of bungalow options to suit most budgets. The cheapest huts are weathered and really pretty crappy, while some newer Thai style huts with carved wooden features are in much better shape. A handful of bungalows sit on the beach, but most are packed together in a few lines... more
