Thongtapan Resort
A very comfortable choice

What we say:
Thong Tapan is a fine midrange choice at the northern end of Thong Nai Pan Noi. Only a few of its 34 stone and wood bungalows are on the beach, with the majority a good distance up a well-shaded hill in too different areas, one with classic island style wooden huts, the other more privately-spaced along large boulders with stone and concrete huts, some built in pairs. The two units at the base of the hill look like large log cabins and are more spacious and comfortable again. All rooms are clean, well-maintained and sturdy. The service is also quite good, providing money exchange, internet access and travel assistance. The Krua Tapan Restaurant on the beach has an average menu although the vegetarian selection is quite good. This is a comfortable choice, but the beach is better toward the centre, and other guesthouses are available with bungalows much closer to the sea.

Lovely renovated Hillside Bungalow
Stayed here for 3 nights (I come to Thong Nai Pan Noi for over a decade now) and we really loved the renovated hillside bungalows. They are bigger now and come with hot shower and aircon. The design is cool and stylish, but still on the simple side. The rooms are clean and have a nice balcony where you can even put up your hammock to sway in the breeze! Staff is very friendly and helpful. We paid THB 1100 for aircon (they also have bungalows without aircon for 500 but we could not be bothered). TNPN is still a very beautiful place, but some places have REALLY moved upmarket. Never the less I love the peace and quiet here, and the locals are extremely friendly. We'll be back!

we love it - again and again
We stayed three times 2005/2007 and 2009 (allways march/april). We will go back on 2011, we cann't wait... Really, it is our favorite place in Koh Phangan: good village, nice beach, much vegetation in the back, prices ok, bungalows and garden very beautyfull in this price-range (now in new design, bathrooms with tadelakt walls) and we love its really friendly staff. Also the restaurant is OK; It is not the most beautyfull, but ask for the fruit-smoothy 'Mango-Mint' for the breakfast - a real dream in a glass! We became addict of its...

Flashpacking at Backpacking prices
Bright, airy, spotless, high ceilings, chic decor and has had a new lick of paint. This private fan bungalow was great for the 500bht a night price. Helpful staff and a really high standard, the place made our chilled out holiday even better. nice veranda out front for reading. Would be great to have comfy chairs out there though! Best breakfast on the beach but went elsewhere for dinner. Rooms aren't directly on the beach but wasn't really an issue with the two minute walk.

Still excellent but pricey
I stayed two times at Thong Tapan resort in 2001 and 2007. Accommodation as good as ever but the prices have skyrocketed (avg. 700-840 for a fan bungalow). Consider the excellent Baan Tapai Noi restaurant on the east of the beach for dinner, much better food than its western counterpart plus they have a nice beach bar.

Lovely setting
We paid 700B for a fan bungalow at Thong Tapan. Lovely setting, great beach but the restaurant isn't good - ok for breakfast but for dinner, head to the place next door!

Questionable Hygiene/Unhappy Staff
It's a beautiful place with good cottages, but I'd stay away as the staff can be difficult and I've wondered about their kitchen as I've had several friends get sick while they were staying there.

not bad...
We stayed only two nights as no air-con, and we were used to that. We were wanting the bay suite (the best) but you have to book ahead, that would have been fab. The wooden huts are picturesque, and the restaurant nice and friendly.

Best spot on the beach
Best spot on the beach and happy travelfish made me aware of it. Best part of the island. People working there are great but the manager/owner is a dragon. Beware of the spirit Alcohols they make you crazy and can get all your money stolen when passing out in a hammock!!!

Best bungalows on the beach
High season price is 500B. Easily the best bungalows on the beach. If you've got the cash, the bay-view house is recommended, but a good idea to book ahead.
