Description
The bungalows at Coral Bay are not on or near the beach but rather sit along Haad Khom's western cliff providing some lovely sea views. The bungalows are very basic wooden units with stone bathrooms for a bit of pizzaz and are quite cheap. This is a quiet and peaceful spot, and most huts are privately situated, although the cheapest have shared bathrooms. The seaview terrace restaurant is laid-back and offers an average selection of Thai and western food -- the staff tend to hassle guests that don't eat here at least once daily. Extra services include massage (250B/hour), travel assistance, snorkel rental (50B/day) and laundry service. Motorbikes are available as well, but the road between Haad Khom and Chaloklum is super treacherous and rocky. Luckily, Coral Bay provides a taxi service to Chaloklum (40B/person) and Thong Sala (80B/person at 10:30), and free pickup from Chaloklum is provided to new arrivals.

The bungalows look okay, standing in a well-kept garden, but they’re dark, dirty and leaky inside. We stayed in the biggest one with two double beds (actually the one on the picture). The staff didn’t like to carry out careful cleaning at all. During rains expect some water from the roof. The food is quite good, the restaurant is a laid-back area overlooking Chalok Lam bay. But somehow we didn’t like the place when we left. The reason was those little things that leave a bad taste in your mouth. Typical: there are no napkins in the restaurant and when you ask for some (try to eat tiger prawns without a napkin!) they provide toilet paper -- which is okay, but later you’ll see on your bill they charged for it. This is ridiculous and so petty-minded. They seemed to love money better than guests on this place! would rather stay a couple of dozen meters away in the Ocean View but not surprisingly it’s almost always fully booked. But anyway you always have to walk there because the beach is there.

I think the last comment is in the wrong location because Coral Bay doesn't have a pool and it isn't a 'party' spot. We stayed at Coral Bay bungalows for eight nights and really didn't want to leave. It is such a beautiful laid-back spot I would recommend it to anyone trying to escape Thailand's overpopulated tourist spots. The food was excellent and the staff will bend over backwards to help you (there are some excellent English speakers).

A bit livelier than I'd hoped for, but a great place to stay nonetheless. The accommodation seemed new and thus clean and well equipped. The staff were an awesome bunch, really friendly and always encouraging people to get involved, whether it be with the parties or their boat trips. They also ran cars to the half-moon party which was a nice touch. The food was okay but the drink cheap and plentiful! The place has its own pool which was nice to relax in. My only gripe, and this might be a positive for some, was it seemed to attract big groups of loud holiday makers from back home, something I was hoping to avoid. Would definitely recommend Coral though.
