Smile Beach Resort
An off-the-beach option

What we say:
Smile Beach is actually a few minutes' walk from the beach, but it is a very peaceful and quiet spot perfect for families and mid-range travellers. The Lanna-style bungalows are attractive enough, but are showing a bit of wear and the gardens are a tad scruffy but at least the bungalows are well spaced. Rooms are clean, if a bit damp and come in a range of sizes with fan or air-con available. The prices are quite reasonable in the low season but nearly double at peak times (mid-December through January) making Smile Beach less good value. Service is friendly and professional. The restaurant here has a good selection of steak and seafood at good prices as well as cheap Thai food and an admirable cocktail list. Guests are served in private salas, and a free pool table is available for patrons. Breakfast is included.

good people, relaxing bungalows
This was a really great place to stay. Only a 2 minute walk from the beach. The bungalows are pretty basic, but nice overall. Haad Salad is a very nice beach. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. WARNING: If you stay here, DO NOT rent a motorbike from Haad Salad Shop & Travel OR Haad Salad Travel. If you put 1 small scratch on the motorbike, they will charge you $US 600. There is no way out of it either, as they hold your passport. We were told that this happens at least 3 times a week to tourists. The best thing to do is NOT rent a motorbike. If you absolutely must rent one, we were told that Haad Salad Villa was a good place to rent from.

Pleasant Place
Booked into here going by above, paid 1350B, breakfast not included. Paid for breakfast, not cheap and then got charged extra for 2nd cup of coffee. Also had to pay for pickup 150b each. Nothing like its add. Still a nice place and nice people but we checked out the very next day and went and stayed on the beach at Asia Bungalows which was a bit cheaper and far superior.

inviting place, warm family
We were here for a acouple of nights. The place, still pretty spanking new, is well done, very comfortable and hardly a couple of minutes walk to the beach. If you're not hung up about staying *on* the beach, its a great option. Their cafe is already up and running as well as a swanky internet setup with 8-10 stations. Their main restaurant should be ready before the New Year, according to Tony (owner who runs it with his brother, girlfriend and mum). He will pick you up from Thong Sala when you arrive and most likely drop you when you need to leave as well..Simple, good people who made our stay there very pleasant.
