To call this place a resort is a bit of a stretch. Upon arrival on Ko Ma, visitors are met with trash and assorted clutter strewn about the otherwise lovely palm groves of this once pristine island. A handful of bungalows privately-spaced along a jungle path -- at the end of which lies an impressive colection of glass and plasctic bottles -- peak through the trees and provide views of Mae Haad beach. The huts are relatively spacious but very drafty and rickety. Large gaps between the walls and roofline invite insects and small reptiles to come and go -- more seem to come than go -- as they please. This also lets in lots of moisture, so the rooms are dank and the linens unsightly and musty. The open bathrooms with large stone-walled showers were a nice thought but are not well cleaned or maintained and have resulted in still more bugs and moisture and a bit of mould in the bathrooms. Some bungalows are a bit more passable than others, but don't expect much.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure.
