Royal Orchid Resort
A fine friendly spot

What we say:
While being far from luxurious and situated on the poorer part of the beach, Royal Orchid offers a good number of choices for mid range travellers and backpackers. With bungalows of several different sizes and comfort levels, there is something for just about everyone. Despite there being no beachfront to speak of, many rooms do have good views of the sea and Ko Ma from just beyond the water's rocky edge. For swimming or sunbathing, guests have to walk further down the beach as the water is mucky and full of longtails. The cheapest rooms are very basic, and in quite bad repair, not much more than a comfortable bed and enough room to get around it, but screens on the windows help keep out unwanted visitors. Spendier rooms don't provide much more than extra space, air-con if you want it, and maybe a better view. The folks here are great and make everyone feel welcome and the Maya beach bar has a lot of charm. They also offer a full range of travel assistance, a mini mart, motorbike (150B/day) and kayak (100B/hour, 200B/3 hours) rentals and internet access. Full Moon partygoers can also hitch a ride to Haad Rin for 200B, getting back is the fun part.
