Ideal for families, mid range travellers and backpackers alike, Island View Cabana boasts a beautiful stretch of beach and ideal prime beachfront location and bungalows to suit all budgets. Guests have the choice of ultra basic bungalows just off the beach, right up to beautiful deluxe bungalows in prime beach-front location with big balconies right on the sand. These get cheaper as they get further away from the beach but the front row are a bit spendier but totally worth it as they are large solid teak bungalows with beautiful island styling and large comfy beds. The cheapest huts at the back are small but fairly well built and with mosquito screens in the windows. Facilities include a small shop, laundry service (40B/kilo) and beachside massage in addition to a well-placed restaurant offering inexpensive Thai food with lovely views of the sea and Ko Ma. PADI certification and fun diving and snorkelling are offered at the connected dive shop. Overall, a great deal in an ideal beach location.

Great Location
While the rooms here are not great, I think the Travelfish review is a bit harsh. The better beachfront bungalows are not brilliant but no worse than countless other set ups on Ko Phangan which recieve much better reviews. The resort itself has very friendly staff and good facilities such as moterbike rental, internet, massage etc. It is also resonably well spaced out on a top quality piece of beachfront. Unlike Had Salad and Had Yao, which are becoming overcrowded and Ko Samui like, this place still has a more relaxed Phangan vibe and isn't blighted by concrete construction.

new bungalows
just to update anyone plaanning to go to island view cabana at mae haad. i live on the island so can't give a review, etc. as i haven't personally stayed in the resort (although i'm very familiar with it). i just wanted to mention that all the old ''shacks'' have been knocked down and are in the process of being replaced by new ones with air-con, refrigerator, etc. hope that helps anyone reading the previous reviews and was put off by the poor quality of bungalows.

Not for me
The spot indeed is nice, but the bungalows are not the best. We paid 200B for a pretty shabby and small hut (there are slightly bigger ones for 300B, but those were booked out) which was OK for a couple of nights but much too basic for my taste: The bed gave me backaches, the windows had neither glass nor fly screen (there was a mosquito net above the bed though)and there was no place to put some stuff out of the backpacks. OK, what can you expect for that little money, but throughout our trip we had better places for the same price. If I come back to Mae Had I'd certainly prefer a different place. The restaurant also was a bit of a disappointment. The staff seemed bored and Currys and soups were were far from the good Thai food we had gotten to know so we preferred the other restaurants on the beach. We met people who loved the place and stayed for weeks so it all depends on what you expect I guess.
