Laem Thian Resort
Ugly but friendly

What we say:
The only setup on Laem Thian Bay's small, rough beach, Laem Thian Resort is a totally secluded place with affordable rooms and individual bungalows for thrifty and midrange travellers. The huge monstrosity they've built on the beach will spoil your first impression if you arrive by boat; it's home to the huge airy restaurant and 10 basic rooms upstairs. The Thai and Western cuisine on offer is good and portions generous, and the views across the bay from the restaurant are good. The bungalows vary in size, quality and comfort level but most are in fair shape and provide spectacular views -- unfortunately, the unsightly restaurant is always in view as well. The staff are excellent and Ping Pong will make sure your stay is one to remember. Snorkels (50B/day) are available at reception for those who wish to swim with resident turtles and black-tip reef sharks. Recommended for an inexpensive, secluded getaway.

Good quiet option
''Located on a private beach on the east coast at Laem Thian point. Requires a bumby ride in a truck to get to for 200THB. Bungalows with nicely designed bathrooms. There are also non bungalow options. Views are very nice. Main building is a bit ugly. You have to eat all your meals at the restaurant where the food is simply ok. Good relaxed option. We paid 400THB with fan.

A great spot
Super friendly staff and family atmosphere - lovely remote location - and hey - you're in the jungle - expect a few intruders! Regrettably my bungalow was right on the beach - which was fabulous on arrival, but the beach bar stays open until the last one wants to leave, so you'll need earplugs if you want to sleep any earlier than 2am. Bungalows could use a little love and care, but a far superior location to the trashy Sairee beach (and the water on this side of the island is much calmer in August/September - and cooler!).
