Description
Bamboo Huts, set above the rocks in the centre of Tanote's beach, provides basic backpacker accommodation. The friendly folks here also provide a few extras that set them apart from the other setups on the beach: an intimate little restaurant overlooking the beach and bay making some decent Mexican food, a bakery that makes cake and other tasty treats and a small shop selling essential supplies you won't find most places on Tanote Bay. These make Bamboo Huts stand out in spite of its standard, basic bamboo huts. While a bit worn, these bungalows are quite spacious, well-kept and clean. Some have great sea views from large private decks.

Sorry for late response, not been back to this page for a while.
No snakes, but plently of spiders, lizards and various types of bug made their way into my room. One night I also had 2 bats fly in and hang from one of the rafters for a while. Something that I have never had happen anywhere else. Not that this is a critism of Bamboo Huts, just comes with the tropical environment. Overall this place holds some of my best memories from my first visit to Thailand in 1999-2000. I hope it hasn't changed too much.

It was 2000 when I was here so I imagine the bay has changed a lot since then, but this place was totally away from it all and very private and relaxing. The restaurant was great, providing a chilled social setting and going into town in the evening seemed as unnecessary as it was difficult. Huts were very basic, but clean. Be prepared to share with the local wildlife as part of the experience. Snorkelling was great, hopefully the bay hasn't been overdeveloped.

Family Tanote Bay Resort
Tanote Bay, Ko Tao
Family Tanote Bay Resort is the most upscale setup on Tanote Bay, though it's not exactly the lap of luxury. In fact, the bungalows here aren't that much fancier than some other operations here, as their prices would suggest. The good-sized bungalows are well-kept and comfortable with fresh linens... more
Mountain Reef Resort
Ao Tanote, Ko Tao
Mountain Reef Resort is a budget operation on the southern end of Tanote Bay. The cheaper huts are very small and located up the hill from the bay amid a lot of tree cover. These are weathered but certainly passable, and the shade keeps them relatively cool. The bungalows on the water's rocky edge... more
Diamond Resort
40/7 Ao Tanote, Ko Tao
Diamond Resort is one of the classier establishments on Tanote Bay. Here you'll find charming little huts right on the beach for a good price and some newer, much larger bungalows up the hill a bit. All options are spacious and clean, but some of the smaller rooms are a little worn inside -- and... more
