Poseidon
Very relaxed and friendly

What we say:
Poseidon Resort, located at the edge of the sand on Tanote Bay, provides very basic no-frills huts at a good price. The small wooden bungalows are very simple and a little weathered but are clean and comfortable for the price. Most are up the hill a short distance behind the beachfront restaurant. The laidback restaurant offers a decent selection of Thai food and a few Western standards at reasonable prices. This spot is very quiet but has plenty to offer those seeking good times in the water. Kayaks (100B/hour) and snorkels (50B/day) are available for taking advantage of Tanote Bay's clear waters and abundant sea life. Safe boxes, laundry (50B/kilo) and travel assistance are also available. Poseidon has a special taxi departing Tanote at 09:00, 13:00 and 16:30 for 80B/person and departing Mae Haad at 10:30 and 14:30 (other times will cost 150B/person).

Big disappointment
This could have been a really cool spot but was let down by certain staff members and a REALLY smelly bathroom. Most of the staff were quite friendly and fairly helpful but others gave off a very indifferent vibe and an uneasy feeling. The bungalows are set in a pretty enviroment but are small, basic and fairly rough - but hey, they only cost 300B. The bathroom was set at a lower level than the bungalow which meant it stayed damp and gave the whole place a musty smell. After a few hours there, the toilet system started really smelling. Had to sleep at night with windows open which let in hordes of mosquitos and we had no net. Restaurant is nicely built with really nice upper deck but food is average with even poorer service at times. Had our video camera stolen on the last day from either out of the room or out of our daypack in the restaurant. When I phoned to report it there was not too much concern shown and no interest in taking my contact details in case anything turned up. When getting a lift back in the resort's own vehicle, not a taxi, we were demanded to pay an additional 100B -- we had already paid 200B -- to be dropped off at our next place of stay, even tho it would have only added 1km in total to the trip. When I refused, we were then dropped at the pier. Also noticed that the driver demanded, fairly rudely, 100B of two French girls after agreeing to GIVE them a lift a few hundred metres to their scooter. A pity, because the place shows loads of potential. Ao Tanote is definitely worth the visit as it's a really nice bay with incredible snorkelling and places to explore - would rather stay with someone else tho.
