Ao Leuk Bungalows
Mama's hideout

What we say:
Ao Leuk Beach Bungalows sprawl from the centre of Ao Leuk beach to the rocky northern end with rooms to suit low and midrange budgets. The friendly family-run operation provides a good-sized shop with clothing, souvenirs and snacks, and the large open-air restaurant has an impressive menu at reasonable prices. For budget travellers, Ao Leuk has small wooden huts on the hillside, some fairly rundown while others are clearly newer. Larger duplex-style bungalows cost a bit more but are much larger and sturdier, providing a lot more comfort. Some are located on the beach and others tower overhead providing wonderful sea views. The beach here is a bit rocky, but the water is clear and inviting. Snorkels (50B/day) and kayaks (150B/hour) are available on the beach.

Moonlight swim on New Years eve
We stayed at Aow Leuk during New Years eve 2009-2010. We stayed in their oldest bungalow, and for 450 B it was clearly overpriced, but we had a nice veranda with a beautiful view over the bay. The beach is nice, but at this time of year it´s pretty windy and a lot of trash is coming in from the sea. Staff is cleaning up almost everyday though. The restaurant at Aow Leuk is closed, but the two other on the area were very nice with friendly staff. The restaurant at Aow Leuk 2 had a great menu and the food was always fresh and tasty! Aow Leuk is a quiet place, but it takes just about 20 minutes to walk in to Mae Haad Bay where you´ll find anything you need.

Beautiful beach, OK bugalows
Ao Leuk is a beautiful beach, with lovely water and amazing snorkeling (the best on the island I think). But it's a drive out of the town and then a 15 min hike down a bumpy dirt road so in the end it was too secluded for us. We were in the cheap bungalows which were also a little too low rent for us (no flushing toilets, no towels, a little dirty). The food at the restaurant was bland as well. We moved after 1 night to Bow Thong Resort which was more accessible. Like another reviewer, we were accosted by ''papa'' at one point as we didn't go through the main gate when returning from Mae Haad. We didn't know we had to and were only taking the shortest route to our bungalow. He ran up to cut off our path and got in our faces yelling about whether we were staying there. We told him we were but he didn't calm down until we pulled out the key to show him. I understand they're trying to protect the beach and their property but they shouldn't treat their guests like criminals in the process.

Papa's completely crazy!
We came with our family (3 children) to their guesthouse and we were violently pushed away by an older man, probably mama's husband. He yelled and pushed us without any reason, even the children!!!
