Description
Located just around the headland from the southern end of Lamai Beach, Rocky Resort went through a substantial redevelopment in 2004 and the results are very impressive. The rooms, particularly the beachfront ones are very well appointed, with some great views and are absolutely spotless inside. Decorated in a contemporary Thai fashion, the beds are firm, the linen crisp and the bathrooms spacious and very tasteful. The restaurant is set by the ocean's edge has a great vista and very good food. The resort appeared to be close to capacity when we revisited and it felt a little crowded with the staff, particularly in the restaurant, a bit frazzled, but overall, if Rocky Resort is in your budget, it is well worth considering. Would not stay there again -

Accomodation and landscaping of the resort itself are nice and clean, and so are the swimming pools.

The private ''beach'' at the resort must be one of the most depressing spots on the island, and so is the ocean there (full of seaweed, impossible to swim).

The local service personnel is helpful and exceptionally good with kids. The two australian expat ''animators'' that are with the resort seem to prefer to approach other native english speakers. This was ok with us, since we were not looking for animation.

Breakfast is adequate considering the room rates, fresh fruits, lots of choice, and always well entertained by the staff.

We tried once what was supposed to be a ''traditional Thai dinner''. Disappointing, because like most upmarket places, they will simply not prepare anything that comes close to authentic Thai food.

Fantastic Food -

Had some friends who stayed and raved about it. Service, accommodation everything. They hardly left the resort the whole 10 days of their holiday. Made a point of visiting restaurant for a meal and now go everytime I visit Samui. Food is to die for and if you want to have a very romantic dinner this is the place to go. Bit hard to find if your first visit so get a baht bus heading for Nathon to drop you off.

Aloha Resort
128 Lamai Beach, Ko Samui
This is a comfortable mid-range hotel, with the deluxe rooms on the upper floors having good views. All rooms have aircon, hot water, TV and mini-bar, and there is a good sized pool within the spacious grounds. It's a popular family choice. Resort comes with attached Spa of Samui. As at May 2006... more
