New Lapaz Villa
Popular with a pool

What we say:
New Lapaz has a small but very refreshing pool along with a large restaurant, though on a stretch of beach as fine as this, it is difficult to see the need for a pool! New Lapaz Villa is a popular spot, partly due to its very well priced air-con bungalows (except for their beachfront bungalows which are a tad overpriced). The resort is clean and pretty well-maintained with pleasant gardens and well-sized huts. New Lapaz shares the same owners at the Thong Nai Pan Beach Resort and Spa on Ko Pha Ngan.

Ghost town
Stayed here for only one night. It's quite a big complex with maybe 30-40 bungalows. Only three were taken when we were there. The whole place felt a bit rundown and past its prime. Staff were not particularly friendly and really not that great a place. Moved to Chaweng beach the next day. I think this place was just a little too quiet for me. Everything in sight (that is, everything along Mae Nam Beach) was closed by around 9pm, including the new Lapaz restaurant.

Ant infested room...
We had the whole idea of a room on the beach, swimming pool to beat. We read good reviews of the place too. When we got there we were greeted by a grumpy old lady, who seemed more interested in watching the TV than showing us to the room. Mae Nam itself was quiet -- so quiet that we were one of only two rooms renting! So if you're young and want something to do, DON'T go to Mae Nam, and definitely do not stay at this place. The old lady turned out to be very sour but thankfully there were 2 other ladies who were nice. However the first chance we got to get down to the more lively Chaweng we took. The only plus point was the pool. It was clean.
