Description
Certainly not a palace as far as we're concerned, but Cleopatra's is clean and very friendly, with a very good restaurant. The mismatched concrete rooms however are mixed value, as few have views other than of each other.

Good value for Samui. -
By claramon ( total comments: 8  More information please ) Stayed here 8/2005
Cleopatra's is good value. This would have been a really nice place to stay had I not been ill. The staff were very sweet and friendly, and the restaurant was good, and inexpensive for Ko Samui. Unfortunately, I had a fever when I stayed (the result of too much partying on Pha Ngan I think), and it was over 40C everyday. The fan room was just too hot, but had I been well I wouldn't have been inside in the daytime anyway. It was fine at night.

What I would say is that the beach is not that great, the water didn't look inviting. Also, out of everywhere I went in Thailand, this was the worst place for stray dogs, they were aggressive and really quite scary, one tried to bite my leg so my brother had to throw a stone near it to scare it away! Carry a stick! Still not impressed by Ko Samui after two visits, but Cleopatra's Palace was a good find.

Have you stayed at Cleopatra Palace? What did you think?

New Star Bungalows
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
This place has old-style island huts, all fan-cooled and with private bathroom in a reasonably well-shaded coconut grove. The stretch of beach here is very pretty and the restaurant, with a pool table, is good, albeit a bit sleepy, making this overall a quiet spot with a welcoming vibe and friendly... more

New Lapaz Villa
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
New Lapaz has a small but very refreshing pool along with a large restaurant, though on a stretch of beach as fine as this, it is difficult to see the need for a pool! New Lapaz Villa is a popular spot, partly due to its very well priced air-con bungalows (except for their beachfront bungalows... more

Morning Glory
12/37 M001 Morning Glory, Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
The Austrian owner of Morning Glory has been on Ko Samui for years and is a great host, with a dedicated gang of returnees coming back year after year. The classic wooden beach huts are very basic, but, being right on the beach are good value for budget travellers. Occasional live music is put on,... more

Mae Nam Villa
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
Mae Nam Villa has a range of bungalows set behind a substantial retaining wall. The newer pastel-coloured and spotlessly clean bungalows are decorated with a flourish and are very comfortable, with well designed stone-finished bathrooms. While there are some older and cheaper huts available,... more

Magic View
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
Magic View is now under French management and this small resort is good value as an old-style Samui haunt for those on a budget. The huts are very basic but are smack-bang right on a great stretch of the beach. The restaurant is small and has a short menu, and while the decking looked to be... more

SR Bungalows
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
Set behind a substantial pebble-encrusted retaining wall, SR Bungalows is a friendly, family run spot with both free-standing and duplex bungalows. The rooms are basic but clean and the gardens are well-loved. Never too busy, this could be a relaxing pit-stop with a family atmosphere thrown in for... more

Sea Shore 2 Bungalows
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
Sea Shore 2 is a very friendly spot with an excellent restaurant and a mix of some of the tiniest bungalows along with larger, more comfortable fare. The smallest are really only for the strict budgeteers, but the others are reasonable. There's an Australian run bar on site (the Hard Crock Cafe)... more

Maenam Cheer
Mae Nam Beach, Ko Samui
This relatively new spot has cute and well designed bungalows right on the beach -- you don't get any closer to beachfront than here -- fall off the veranda into gleaning white sand. There's a spacious beachfront restaurant and the staff are cheery enough. Not a bad choice for a backpacker looking... more
