Santiburi Resort

Well overpriced, indifferent staff

What we say

This is the flashest resort on Mae Nam, with 71 well-appointed rooms through lush grounds that run down to the beach. The hotel has a huge pool just behind reception and a full golf course. The grounds are sprawling and tropical and the rooms are furnished in a Thai contemporary style that come with all the trimmings, including, in many cases outdoor jacuzzis. Rates are breath-takingly high especially when compared to other top-range options on the island. We've also found the staff to be particularly indifferent here -- it can be a real struggle to see a room if you don't look upmarket enough.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure.
