Thairungruang Hotel
A popular choice

What we say:
Thairungruang has an amazing number of Chinese vases crowding the lobby which must be worth a small fortune. This is an old professionally-run hotel and is in an excellent location, close to the bus stations and the smaller of the two night markets. Rooms are spacious though lacking in character, furnished with a small dressing table, closet and TV. A travel agent office is downstairs.

Fine
I arrived late at night. They had a price list with 'fixed' prices in English. The singles were 320 and the double with TV 380. The single had no window and was musty, but the TV room was more like a double, very bright and clean, with Star movies. It was Chinese style ventilation though, i.e. an open grill over the door, though it was quiet at night. I haggled the price to 340. There was building work in the morning, but I was well-rested by then. They looked after my bags for two hours for free.

Good Price for Luxuries
We stayed here for one night on the 12th July 2005. It was a stop over on the way to Satun/Langkawi from Ko Samui. 400THB per night with air-con, Hot water, fresh towels, soap, shampoo, clean sheets and TV. The hotel looks like is a converted hospital or mental asylum and be sure to barter for a good price. Not bad compared to some of the other places in Surat Thani. Stay away from the insects at the night market, they don't taste like chicken at all! Jay and Simone PERTH, Western Australia
