Cheapest option on Ngai

Wedged between the Mayalay and Fantasy mid- to up-range resorts, Koh Hai Camping is the black sheep of this island.
Large green tents are set up overlooking the sea and outfitted with a couple of firm single mattresses on the floor, a lamp and moveable fan -- so yes, they do have electricity at night. The grimy shared bathrooms are hidden towards the back of the grounds and seem more like outhouses with cold showerheads rather than proper bathrooms. The place is staffed by a crew of young Thai guys who are friendly but not always inclined to get up and clean or help guests out; spend a night drinking at their beach bar and they'll be more likely to provide assistance should you need something. The restaurant is one of the best and cheapest on Ngai, serving downhome authentic Thai food and barbecue prepared in an open-air kitchen and served to tables set up over the sand. This is the closest Ko Ngai gets to a beach-bum backpacker scene. Closed for low season.
