My Friend
Comfortable tropical guesthouse

What we say:
Located in a corner of the train station's parking lot, just off Sathani Road, My Friend offers a tropical escape from the asphalt and noise of the town. The owners have really made an effort at creating an inviting atmosphere -- there are colourful batik prints in all the rooms, seashell-covered mirrors in the bathrooms, and even wooden dugongs posed in aquariums throughout the hotel. OK, it's a little over the top -- but with clean, modern rooms and comfy beds, we doubt you'll mind. All rooms have air-con, hot water showers, cable TV and fridges. There's an internet cafe downstairs and WiFi is free. The down side here is that little English is spoken and staff could be friendlier, but for the money My Friend is a solid choice.

Not much of a friend
I believe My Friend serves mainly local travelers, rather than foreign travelers. This is evident from the Thai only or minimal English maps, brochures, VCD's, DVD's, and staff available in My Friend. There is no elevator in this 4-floor building. The reception staff was not friendly nor helpful. When I asked for directions, she just gave me a map which was in Thai. No greetings from her whenever I saw her. Though she just lightly acknowledged when I greeted her. She was the only staff who could converse in English while I was there. I noticed she was more friendly to the Thai travelers. During the breakfast hours, the staff was friendlier but they don't speak English. The included breakfast was toasts with butter & jam, coffee, or tea. The room was acceptable with clean sheets and towels. Lots of mosquitoes got into the room. The shower head came off so I was showering with a hose. I moved out after a night. 550 baht for a twin or double room. 650 for a triple room.
