This charming, decorously ageing place in a relatively quiet location struck us as a relic from a bygone era. We asked one of the staff how old it was. Old! she said, 15 years old! Well, we guess any hotel built before doi moi qualifies as old these days. The dramatic central staircase leads up to spacious rooms with hardwood floors, big beds and plenty of atmosphere to spare. Rooms in the front offer balconies with views over the street, while rooms in the back lock onto a neighbouring tennis court. It's not glamorous or spotless, but it's a homey, authentically Vietnamese choice. And even though the building isn't as old as it looks, you can still pretend the French built it. They also offer free airport pick-up.
