Hop Yen Hotel

The Hop Yen's business card boasts that they're located in the old town centre but we're not sure which old town they're referring to, as they're a good 10-minute walk from Hoi An's centre.

The hotel has loads of rooms, including some with rather odd inward-facing balconies for smokers. This is one of the cheapest options in town, particularly as they also offer $6 a night beds in a 10-bed dorm. The rooms we looked at were cramped with little room around the low beds, which were kitted out with extremely firm mattresses. The bathrooms are dated and grubby but regardless of this it’s still extremely popular with the backpacker crowd -- the first two times we tried to visit, they were completely full. If you're on a tight budget, it will probably do the trick, though you could do much better if you were prepared to walk a little further up Hai Ba Trung, where you will find more spacious accommodation from as little as $10. One thing worth knowing whether you stay here or not is that they offer competitive prices on onward travel and local tours in comparison to local tour operators. There is a second entrance at 694 Hai Ba Trung Street.
